Happy New Year 2018

2017 in retrospect...

On a high note, my son Viktor was born on June 4th, which has been an endless source of joy and pride for the entire family. On a low note, I feel deeply shaken by the many disturbing events that occurred throughout the year: the demeaning of women, spewing of vitriolic hatred and an alarming, growing sense of division among people.

Seeking refuge in music, I have prepared two contrasting works as a sort of “musical offering” in hopes for a better 2018. The subtle timelessness and sublime purity of both Handel’s and Beethoven’s works promulgate the redemptive power of love and compassion to invigorate change, empathy to acknowledge the interconnectedness of all beings and self-reflection to promote the better social good.

New CD Release

Featuring a live performance of Jozef Koffler’s piano concerto together with the youthful, energetic Sinfonia Iuventus under the direction of Maestro Slowinski. Jozef Koffler was renowned as the “first Polish 12-tone composer” who fought to bring avant-garde music into Poland. His music remains strikingly original, embodying elements of folklore and neoclassicism.

Zoomer Hall in Toronto, ON

On November 24th, I performed a special concert offering musical gems by Jewish composers who were silenced in the second World War, including A. Zemlinsky, W. Arlen, E. Toch, K. Rathaus and E.W. Korngold.

It was a wonderful experience to spend a few vibrant days in Toronto, to reconnect with host Kathleen Kajioka, and a true honour to be able to share the unique stories of each of the composers featured in the program. I also used the opportunity to perform my own improvisation of a film music theme by E.W. Korngold - The Love Theme from Adventures of Robinhood (1938).

The entire performance is now available via YouTube:
